The present investigation was an attempt to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of a polyherbal preparation (Sudarshanam Oil) on hematological parameters in Wistar rats. This polyherbal formula contains main ingredients of Tinaspora Cordifolia, Curcuma longa, Terminalia chebula, Emblica officinalis, Andrographis paniculata and Terminalia belerica. The active phytochemicals such as tannins, glycosides, flavonoids and triterpenoids are extracted from these herbal plants. And extract was prepared in corn oil.
OBJECTIVES: To assess whether familial longevity can be attributed to sustained hematopoietic capacity. DESIGN: Prospective follow-up study of two independent population-based cohorts. SETTING: The Leiden Longevity Study and the Leiden 85-plus Study. PARTICIPANTS: From the Leiden Longevity Study, 1,001 nonagenarians with familial longevity were included. As age-matched controls, 260 nonagenarians without familial longevity were used from the Leiden 85-plus Study. MEASUREMENTS: Hemoglobin, leukocytes, and thrombocytes were measured for all subjects with and without familial longevity.
OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate evidence of possible major impacts of psychological stress and psychosomatic interventions on myeloproliferative blood disorders and develop new approaches for the unification and quantified analysis of stress and psychosomatic treatments. METHODS: This 3.5- year longitudinal study was based upon the regular blood tests of a person with myelofibrosis who experienced severe and repeated work-related psychological stress and was subjected to psychosomatic treatment in the form of regular (approximately 4 h per day) self-hypnosis sessions.
Plasma concentrations of big endothelin-1 were determined by ELISA in 18 patients with complicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Bangkok. Before therapy, elevated levels were recorded (21 +/- 12 vs. 2.9 +/- 1.1 pmol/L in age- and sex-matched healthy subjects; P < .001). Even 7 days after therapy, elevated concentrations were seen (25 +/- 14 pmol/L). Plasma endothelin levels were correlated with levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (r = .632, P < .01), and a negative correlation with platelet counts was seen (r = .783, P < .005).

OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficacy of a treatment regimen combining modern (Western) medication and a traditional Chinese medicinal recipe Modified Liang-Ge San on sepsis, and its effect on platelet parameters/activation, platelet TLR4 expression and the intensity of inflammatory response in the patients. METHODS: 64 patients with sepsis were randomly assigned to two groups (32 each) to receive Western therapy only (group X) and Western therapy + Modified Liang-Ge San (group L).
Arsenic trioxide (ATO), one of the oldest drugs in both Western and traditional Chinese medicine, has become an effective anticancer drug, especially in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). However, thrombocytopenia occurred in most of ATO-treated patients with APL or other malignant diseases, and the pathogenesis remains unclear.
Dapsone has been shown to be effective in treating immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in adults. In children the experience is limited. We describe our experience using dapsone in a female with refractory, symptomatic ITP who suffered intracranic haemorrhage and massive gastric bleeding. After treatment platelet counts was more than 100 x 103/μL, and reached 1000x103/μL. Discontinuation resulted in a rapid decrease in platelet counts, with severe intracranial haemorrhage (ICH). The recovery of dapsone led the platelets count to lower values.
